The chapter also discusses the relevant laws applicable to the hoarding and cluttering conditions. The chapter further discusses how the rules put in place contribute to successful intervention to hoarding. It also discusses the limitations set by the laws concerning the extent to which the social worker is allowed to act in dealing with hoarder’s items. The chapter explicitly examines the intervention measures placed by social worker service providers in the U.K., such as the London Fire Brigade, and their contribution to reducing the level of risks exposed to hoarders. The skills and level of expertise required by a social worker are also discussed along with the scope of the services offered by the social worker. The chapter also examines the contribution of the social work services in people with hoarding behaviours as well as the challenges and limitations hindering effective social work services provision to hoarders.
