Perimeters: for essay three, must be in Times New Roman 12 point font, double spaced, one inch margins around each page, each indent only half an inch from the margin, written in the third person point of view all the way through (unless it’s a quote from one of your sources), and in MLA format (including a Works Cited page, even if you’ve only used the textbook). The finished product should be between three to five pages (no less and preferably no more), and the Works Cited page does not count for your page count for the essay.
For essay three, what you will be doing is what is known as a close reading, or an investigative process of carefully reading a work or a set of works to find a topic of discussion (e.g. common symbols, common theme, author’s influences in either their life or from authors and poets before them, etc.). You will choose one or more of the works we have looked at so far, create a strong thesis about the work(s), and aim to prove your point to be valid.
