Nielsen recently hosted two milestone market intelligence events in Nairobi, Kenya, and in Kampala, Uganda. The event’s theme, ‘Changing Markets, Changing Consumers, Changing Strategies,’ helped attendees understand the changing nature of markets and consumers in East Africa, as well as the resulting requirement for changing strategies in the wake of this flux (DEBUNKING RETAIL MYTHS AND UNVEILING CONSUMER BEHAVIOR IN EAST AFRICA, 2018).

 

Ipsos conducted a study from November 27 to December 8, 2017, in which they concluded that countries that have a younger population are more optimistic about 2018 than countries with an aging population. The article states that people around the world are optimistic about personal prospects for 2018, with 76% of respondents stating that 2018 will be better than 2017. The levels of optimism vary across regions of the globe, with countries that have a younger population reporting higher levels of optimism than countries with an aging population (Countries that Have a Younger Population Are More Optimistic About 2018 Than Countries with an Aging Population, 2018).

 

The Harris Poll posted an article about three Syrian students of University of the People who struggle to further their education due to the war in Syria. This is a very inspiring story as it shows the determination these students have to complete their studies even though the war that has killed more than 465,000 Syrians. One of the students says “I’m motivated to learn and want to keep learning. If I have the chance, I want to be part of the process of rebuilding the country again,” says Mahmoud (Three Syrian Students of University of the People Struggle to Further Their Education Under…, n.d.).
